About the JSON Formatter

When JSON does not parse, the error names the line and column and explains the likely cause - a trailing comma, a single quote where JSON requires double, or a document that ends before its brackets close. That is usually the whole job.

Sorting keys is worth turning on before comparing two documents. Key order carries no meaning in JSON, so two logically identical files can produce a diff full of noise until both are sorted.

Large documents are handled, but the browser holds the whole thing in memory: a file above roughly 50 MB is better split first.

Questions people ask

Is your document uploaded to a server?

No. This tool runs entirely in your browser using standard web APIs, so your document never leaves your device. You can confirm it by opening your browser's network panel while the tool runs, or by disconnecting from the internet after the page has loaded.

Is it free, and do I need an account?

Yes, it is free, and there is no account, no sign-up and no watermark on the result. The project is funded by optional donations.
