About the Remove PDF Restrictions

A PDF can carry permission flags that ask readers to refuse printing, copying or editing. Those flags are advisory: the document is not encrypted against you, and every reader chooses whether to honour them.

This removes the flags from a document that already opens without a password. It cannot open a document that needs a password to read - that is genuine encryption, and breaking it is neither possible here nor something this project will offer.

Only use this on documents you own or are authorised to modify. Removing restrictions from someone else’s document may breach their terms or your local law.

Questions people ask

Can it remove a password I do not know?

No. A document that requires a password to open is encrypted, and this tool cannot decrypt it. It only removes the permission flags on documents that already open freely.

Is using this legal?

That depends on the document and where you are. It is intended for documents you own or have permission to modify - a form you need to fill in, or a file you created and locked yourself. Circumventing protection on someone else’s material can be unlawful.

Why does this tool upload my file when the others do not?

Because the software it needs does not exist in a browser. Most tools here run entirely on your device; the ones that need FFmpeg, LibreOffice or a full PDF engine cannot. Those run on an isolated worker with no network access, and the file is deleted as soon as the result is sent to you.

What happens to the file I upload?

It is stored under a random name that is not guessable, processed by an isolated worker, and deleted as soon as you download the result - and in any case automatically after 60 minutes. Uploads are never indexed, shared or used for anything besides producing your result.

Is it free, and do I need an account?

Yes, it is free, and there is no account, no sign-up and no watermark on the result. The project is funded by optional donations.
