About the HTML Encode
The five characters escaped here are the ones that change the meaning of HTML. Escaping them is how you display code samples, or show text containing markup without it being interpreted.
Encoding output is only half of safe HTML handling - it has to be applied at the moment the value is written into the page. Escaping data early and then concatenating it is what produces double-escaped text and, in the other direction, holes.
Questions people ask
Is your text uploaded to a server?
No. This tool runs entirely in your browser using standard web APIs, so your text never leaves your device. You can confirm it by opening your browser's network panel while the tool runs, or by disconnecting from the internet after the page has loaded.
Is it free, and do I need an account?
Yes, it is free, and there is no account, no sign-up and no watermark on the result. The project is funded by optional donations.
