About the Compress PNG

PNG is lossless, so simply re-encoding it saves almost nothing. What makes a PNG smaller is reducing the number of distinct colours, because PNG compresses runs of identical pixels.

That works very well on logos, icons, diagrams and screenshots, which have large areas of flat colour. It works badly on photographs, where it produces visible banding in gradients - use WebP or JPEG for those instead.

No. This tool runs entirely in your browser using standard web APIs, so your image never leaves your device. You can confirm it by opening your browser's network panel while the tool runs, or by disconnecting from the internet after the page has loaded.

Is it free, and do I need an account?
