About the Exposure Editor
One stop is a doubling or halving of light, which is the unit cameras use. Plus one stop is twice as much light; minus one stop is half.
Detail that clipped to pure white when the photograph was taken cannot be recovered by lowering exposure here - those pixels hold no information to bring back. Shadow detail usually survives being lifted, though noise comes with it.
For raw files, adjusting exposure in raw software is always better: it works on the sensor data before it has been reduced to eight bits per channel.
Questions people ask
Is your image uploaded to a server?
No. This tool runs entirely in your browser using standard web APIs, so your image never leaves your device. You can confirm it by opening your browser's network panel while the tool runs, or by disconnecting from the internet after the page has loaded.
Is it free, and do I need an account?
Yes, it is free, and there is no account, no sign-up and no watermark on the result. The project is funded by optional donations.
