About the Gamma Editor

Gamma applies a curve rather than an offset: values above 1 lift the midtones, values below 1 deepen them, and pure black and pure white are left exactly where they were.

That is why gamma is the right control for an image that reads as too dark overall. Raising brightness instead shifts everything, washing out the blacks and clipping the highlights.

Gamma correction also exists for a technical reason: displays respond to signal non-linearly, and gamma is the compensation for it.

Is your image uploaded to a server?

No. This tool runs entirely in your browser using standard web APIs, so your image never leaves your device. You can confirm it by opening your browser's network panel while the tool runs, or by disconnecting from the internet after the page has loaded.

Is it free, and do I need an account?
