About the Pixelate an Image
Each block is filled with the average colour of the pixels it covers.
Pixelation is not reliable redaction. When the underlying content is from a small known set - a licence plate, a number, a short word - the original can sometimes be recovered by testing candidates against the blocks. To remove information permanently, crop it out or cover it with a solid rectangle.
Questions people ask
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. The image is decoded, processed and re-encoded by your own browser using the canvas API. You can watch the network panel while it runs, or disconnect from the internet after the page loads - the tool keeps working.
Is pixelating safe for hiding personal information?
Not reliably. Use a solid block, or crop the area out entirely, if the information genuinely must not be recoverable.
Is your image uploaded to a server?
No. This tool runs entirely in your browser using standard web APIs, so your image never leaves your device. You can confirm it by opening your browser's network panel while the tool runs, or by disconnecting from the internet after the page has loaded.
Is it free, and do I need an account?
Yes, it is free, and there is no account, no sign-up and no watermark on the result. The project is funded by optional donations.
