About the Remove EXIF Data from an Image

The image is decoded to raw pixels and encoded again from scratch. Nothing from the original file structure survives: no EXIF, no GPS, no IPTC, no XMP, no thumbnail, no software history.

That is more thorough than an editor that claims to remove metadata while leaving some blocks intact - but it does mean the pixels are re-compressed, so choose a high quality setting or PNG output if the image matters.

The embedded colour profile is also removed. For a wide-gamut photograph that can shift colours slightly on a calibrated display.

Questions people ask

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. The image is decoded, processed and re-encoded by your own browser using the canvas API. You can watch the network panel while it runs, or disconnect from the internet after the page loads - the tool keeps working.

Does this remove everything, including GPS?

Yes. Only the pixels are carried over to the new file, so every metadata block - including GPS coordinates and the embedded thumbnail, which sometimes shows an uncropped version of the image - is gone.

Is your image uploaded to a server?

No. This tool runs entirely in your browser using standard web APIs, so your image never leaves your device. You can confirm it by opening your browser's network panel while the tool runs, or by disconnecting from the internet after the page has loaded.

Is it free, and do I need an account?

Yes, it is free, and there is no account, no sign-up and no watermark on the result. The project is funded by optional donations.
