About the Solarize Image

Only tones above the threshold are inverted, which is what gives solarisation its strange metallic look rather than the flat reversal of a straight invert.

The effect began as a darkroom accident in the 1920s - film briefly re-exposed to light mid-development - and was then used deliberately by Man Ray and Lee Miller.
