About the Sentence Counter

Sentences are split at full stops, question marks, exclamation marks and ellipses, including their CJK equivalents, and any closing quotes or brackets stay with the sentence they belong to.

Average sentence length is the single most useful number here. Plain-language guidance for general audiences puts the comfortable average between 15 and 20 words; consistently above 25 is where readers start losing the thread.

Abbreviations that end in a full stop - "e.g.", "Dr.", "Inc." - will each add one to the count. If your text is full of them, treat the number as an upper bound.

Is your text uploaded to a server?

No. This tool runs entirely in your browser using standard web APIs, so your text never leaves your device. You can confirm it by opening your browser's network panel while the tool runs, or by disconnecting from the internet after the page has loaded.

Is it free, and do I need an account?

Yes, it is free, and there is no account, no sign-up and no watermark on the result. The project is funded by optional donations.
