About the Bulk File Renamer
A web page cannot rename files on your disk - browsers deliberately have no such permission. What this does is produce the plan: a table of old and new names, a CSV of the mapping, and a shell script that performs the renames.
Name collisions are detected and counted, because two files ending up with the same name is how a bulk rename destroys data. The generated script uses `mv -n`, which refuses to overwrite rather than silently replacing.
Review the plan before running anything. The script is plain text and does exactly what it says.
Questions people ask
Why does it not just rename the files?
A browser has no access to your filesystem beyond the files you explicitly choose, and no permission to write back to them. Any site claiming to rename files in place is either uploading them or misleading you.
Is your file uploaded to a server?
No. This tool runs entirely in your browser using standard web APIs, so your file never leaves your device. You can confirm it by opening your browser's network panel while the tool runs, or by disconnecting from the internet after the page has loaded.
Is it free, and do I need an account?
Yes, it is free, and there is no account, no sign-up and no watermark on the result. The project is funded by optional donations.
