Password Generator

Generate strong random passwords with a chosen length and character set, and see their real entropy.

Removes I, l, 1, O and 0 - worth it if the password will be typed from a screen.

Processed in your browser

Fill in the form and press “Generate passwords” to see the result here.

How to use it

  1. 1Pick a length. Twenty characters with all four character sets is strong enough for anything.
  2. 2Press Generate. Nothing is transmitted and nothing is stored.
  3. 3Copy the one you want straight into your password manager.

About the Password Generator

Every character comes from your browser’s cryptographic random generator. There is no seed you could reproduce, no server involved, and the values are not written to storage.

Length beats complexity. A 20-character password from lowercase letters alone has about 94 bits of entropy; a 10-character password using every symbol on the keyboard has about 65. Adding characters helps far more than adding character classes.

The right place for the result is a password manager. A password you can remember is a password that is short enough to be attacked, which is why generated passwords and a manager go together.

Questions people ask

Are these passwords sent to a server or logged?

No. They are generated in the page by the Web Crypto API and exist only in the tab until you close it. Nothing is transmitted and nothing is written to storage.

What length should I choose?

Sixteen characters is a reasonable floor for an ordinary account, twenty or more for anything that matters. If a site rejects a long password, that is a sign it is storing passwords badly.

Is your code uploaded to a server?

No. This tool runs entirely in your browser using standard web APIs, so your code never leaves your device. You can confirm it by opening your browser's network panel while the tool runs, or by disconnecting from the internet after the page has loaded.

Is it free, and do I need an account?

Yes, it is free, and there is no account, no sign-up and no watermark on the result. The project is funded by optional donations.
