About the UUID Generator

Version 4 is 122 bits of randomness from your browser’s cryptographic generator. You would need to generate about 2.7 × 10¹⁸ of them before a collision became likely, so for practical purposes they are unique without coordination.

Version 7 puts a 48-bit millisecond timestamp in the leading bits, so the values sort chronologically as plain strings. That keeps database B-tree indexes sequential, which is the main practical argument against v4 as a primary key.

Values are generated in your browser and never transmitted, which matters if the ids will become record identifiers.
