Image Resizer

Resize an image by width, height, percentage or exact dimensions, keeping it sharp.

or drag it here

image/* · up to 40 MB

Enlarging adds no detail - it only interpolates what is already there.

85

Lower means a smaller file. Above 90 rarely looks different and costs a lot of size.

About the Image Resizer

Resizing by width or height keeps the aspect ratio, which is what you almost always want. The exact mode does not, and will stretch the image if the ratio differs.

Scaling uses the browser’s high-quality resampling, which is a good bicubic-style filter. Reducing to less than a third in one step can still soften fine detail; for very large reductions, two steps look better.

Enlarging cannot invent detail. Interpolation smooths between existing pixels, so an upscaled image is always softer than a native one at that size.

Questions people ask

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. The image is decoded, processed and re-encoded by your own browser using the canvas API. You can watch the network panel while it runs, or disconnect from the internet after the page loads - the tool keeps working.

Will resizing reduce the file size?

Yes, usually dramatically. File size scales roughly with pixel count, so halving both dimensions removes about three quarters of the pixels. That is a far bigger saving than any quality setting.

Is your image uploaded to a server?

No. This tool runs entirely in your browser using standard web APIs, so your image never leaves your device. You can confirm it by opening your browser's network panel while the tool runs, or by disconnecting from the internet after the page has loaded.

Is it free, and do I need an account?

Yes, it is free, and there is no account, no sign-up and no watermark on the result. The project is funded by optional donations.
