About the Temperature Converter

Temperature scales are affine rather than proportional: they differ in both the size of a degree and the position of zero. That is why the conversion needs a multiplication *and* an addition, and why you cannot convert a temperature by scaling alone.

It also means a temperature difference converts differently from a temperature. A rise of 10 degrees Celsius is a rise of 18 degrees Fahrenheit, not 50.

Values below absolute zero are rejected rather than converted, since they do not describe anything physical.
