About the DOCX Embedded File Extractor

Documents can carry whole files inside them - a spreadsheet, a presentation, occasionally an executable. Those objects are listed here and extracted as raw files.

Nothing is executed and nothing is opened. Embedded objects are a long-standing malware delivery route, so treat anything found in a document you did not create as untrusted, and scan it before opening.

Questions people ask

Is my document uploaded?

No. A DOCX or ODT file is a ZIP archive of XML, and both are unpacked and read by your own browser. Nothing is transmitted, nothing is stored, and the tool works with the network disconnected once the page has loaded.

Does this work with .doc files from older versions of Word?

No. The old .doc format is a binary format with a completely different structure, and it is not readable this way. Save or convert the file as .docx first - Word, LibreOffice and Google Docs all do that.

Is it free, and do I need an account?

Yes, it is free, and there is no account, no sign-up and no watermark on the result. The project is funded by optional donations.
