About the DOCX Image Extractor
Images are extracted exactly as they were inserted, which is usually much larger than the size they appear at in the document. Word scales pictures for display without touching the stored file.
That also means a picture cropped inside Word still contains everything outside the crop. Extracting it shows the whole original - worth knowing in both directions.
Renaming a .docx to .zip and unpacking it does the same job; this is the same operation with the files listed and named for you.
Questions people ask
Is my document uploaded?
No. A DOCX or ODT file is a ZIP archive of XML, and both are unpacked and read by your own browser. Nothing is transmitted, nothing is stored, and the tool works with the network disconnected once the page has loaded.
Does this work with .doc files from older versions of Word?
No. The old .doc format is a binary format with a completely different structure, and it is not readable this way. Save or convert the file as .docx first - Word, LibreOffice and Google Docs all do that.
Is it free, and do I need an account?
Yes, it is free, and there is no account, no sign-up and no watermark on the result. The project is funded by optional donations.
