About the DOCX Comment Extractor
Comments are stored in a separate part of the document and stay there whether or not the reader has the review pane open.
They are one of the most common ways internal discussion reaches an external recipient: "can we really say this", "check with legal", a colleague named directly. Checking before sending a document out is worth the fifteen seconds.
Nothing is modified here. To remove comments, use the review tools in Word or LibreOffice, both of which do it properly.
Questions people ask
Is my document uploaded?
No. A DOCX or ODT file is a ZIP archive of XML, and both are unpacked and read by your own browser. Nothing is transmitted, nothing is stored, and the tool works with the network disconnected once the page has loaded.
Does this work with .doc files from older versions of Word?
No. The old .doc format is a binary format with a completely different structure, and it is not readable this way. Save or convert the file as .docx first - Word, LibreOffice and Google Docs all do that.
Is it free, and do I need an account?
Yes, it is free, and there is no account, no sign-up and no watermark on the result. The project is funded by optional donations.
