About the File Checksum Validator
Comparison ignores case and whitespace, and accepts the "hash filename" form that checksum files use, so you can paste a line straight from a SHA256SUMS file.
A match proves the file is exactly what was hashed. It does not prove the file is safe - if an attacker can replace the download they can usually replace the published checksum too. Only a signature, verified against a key you already trust, defends against that.

No. This tool runs entirely in your browser using standard web APIs, so your file never leaves your device. You can confirm it by opening your browser's network panel while the tool runs, or by disconnecting from the internet after the page has loaded.
Is it free, and do I need an account?
