About the Image Format Converter

One tool for any pair of formats. The input can be anything your browser decodes - JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, ICO or SVG - and the output is whichever of the three web formats you choose.

The output list is limited to PNG, JPG and WebP because those are the formats browsers can actually encode. A browser that is asked for something else silently produces a PNG instead, so the tool checks and tells you rather than handing you a mislabelled file.

Questions people ask

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. The image is decoded, processed and re-encoded by your own browser using the canvas API. You can watch the network panel while it runs, or disconnect from the internet after the page loads - the tool keeps working.

Why can I not convert to AVIF or GIF?

Browsers can decode those formats but cannot encode them through the canvas API. Offering the option would produce a PNG with the wrong file extension, so it is not offered.

Is your image uploaded to a server?

No. This tool runs entirely in your browser using standard web APIs, so your image never leaves your device. You can confirm it by opening your browser's network panel while the tool runs, or by disconnecting from the internet after the page has loaded.

Is it free, and do I need an account?

Yes, it is free, and there is no account, no sign-up and no watermark on the result. The project is funded by optional donations.
