About the Percentage Change Calculator
Percentage change is always measured against the original value. That is why a rise of 50% followed by a fall of 50% does not get you back where you started - the second percentage is taken from a larger base.
Going from 100 to 150 is a 50% increase; going back from 150 to 100 is a 33.3% decrease. Both describe the same 50-unit gap, and the difference between them is behind a lot of misleading statistics.
The absolute value of the original is used as the denominator so that changes from a negative starting point report a sensible sign.
