About the DOCX Properties Viewer

Office documents record who created them, who last saved them, when, how many revisions there have been, how long they were edited for, and often the company the licence is registered to.

None of that is visible when you open the document, and all of it travels with the file. Documents have repeatedly embarrassed the people who sent them for exactly this reason.

Everything is read locally here. If you want the metadata gone rather than merely visible, use the metadata remover.

Questions people ask

Is my document uploaded?

No. A DOCX or ODT file is a ZIP archive of XML, and both are unpacked and read by your own browser. Nothing is transmitted, nothing is stored, and the tool works with the network disconnected once the page has loaded.

Does this work with .doc files from older versions of Word?

No. The old .doc format is a binary format with a completely different structure, and it is not readable this way. Save or convert the file as .docx first - Word, LibreOffice and Google Docs all do that.

Is it free, and do I need an account?

Yes, it is free, and there is no account, no sign-up and no watermark on the result. The project is funded by optional donations.
