About the DOCX Text Extractor
Text is read in document order from paragraphs, tables and text boxes, which is how the words actually appear when you read the file.
Headers, footers and footnotes are stored in separate parts of the archive and are not included - they are not part of the body text, and mixing them in would scramble the reading order.
This is the right tool for feeding a document into something that only accepts plain text, and for checking what a document really says when its formatting is fighting you.
Questions people ask
Is my document uploaded?
No. A DOCX or ODT file is a ZIP archive of XML, and both are unpacked and read by your own browser. Nothing is transmitted, nothing is stored, and the tool works with the network disconnected once the page has loaded.
Does this work with .doc files from older versions of Word?
No. The old .doc format is a binary format with a completely different structure, and it is not readable this way. Save or convert the file as .docx first - Word, LibreOffice and Google Docs all do that.
Is it free, and do I need an account?
Yes, it is free, and there is no account, no sign-up and no watermark on the result. The project is funded by optional donations.
