About the DOCX Viewer

Shows the text and heading structure of a document. It is a reader, not an editor, and it does not attempt to reproduce fonts, colours, images or exact page layout.

The preview renders inside a sandboxed frame with no access to this page - no cookies, no storage, no parent document. That is what makes it safe to open a file from someone you do not know.

For a faithful rendering, LibreOffice is free and opens both formats properly.

Questions people ask

Is my document uploaded?

No. A DOCX or ODT file is a ZIP archive of XML, and both are unpacked and read by your own browser. Nothing is transmitted, nothing is stored, and the tool works with the network disconnected once the page has loaded.

Does this work with .doc files from older versions of Word?

No. The old .doc format is a binary format with a completely different structure, and it is not readable this way. Save or convert the file as .docx first - Word, LibreOffice and Google Docs all do that.

Is it free, and do I need an account?

Yes, it is free, and there is no account, no sign-up and no watermark on the result. The project is funded by optional donations.
