About the RTF to TXT Converter

RTF stores formatting as control words mixed into the text, which is why an RTF opened in a text editor is mostly noise. This parses those control words properly rather than deleting anything that looks like markup.

Paragraph breaks and tabs are kept because they are structure. Fonts, colours, tables and embedded pictures are discarded.

Unicode escapes and hex escapes are decoded, so accented and non-Latin characters come through intact.

Questions people ask

Is my document uploaded?

No. A DOCX or ODT file is a ZIP archive of XML, and both are unpacked and read by your own browser. Nothing is transmitted, nothing is stored, and the tool works with the network disconnected once the page has loaded.

Is it free, and do I need an account?

Yes, it is free, and there is no account, no sign-up and no watermark on the result. The project is funded by optional donations.
